Flashlight 3D is hiring its first intern cohort.
Four weeks, 30–40 hours a week, in person in downtown San Diego. You'll build digital health tool prototypes alongside the founder, ship a real product, and learn how a technology company actually gets off the ground.
This cohort is designed for high school students. College students and career-switchers are welcome.
What you'll do
- Build multiple digital health tool prototypes
- Design and launch a website to share them
- Apply for funding to build at least one prototype further
- Get hands-on experience in every part of starting a technology company: legal and governance, project management, product development, HR, outreach and partnerships, fundraising
Why it's worth your time
The most in-demand jobs right now require tools that didn't exist five years ago. The best way to learn them is to build with them.
- LLMs opened new ways to access information and communicate.
- Multistep reasoning and coding let anyone build applications by describing how they should work.
- Agentic systems automate complex repetitive tasks — research, problem-solving, experiments that run while you sleep.
You'll learn by using these tools to design and build real digital health products, on a real timeline, for a real startup. You'll leave with a portfolio, a network, and a working knowledge of the tools reshaping every industry.
Roles
We're hiring across six areas. Most interns contribute across multiple roles — this is a startup, not a specialized job.
Product & Data
For people who love finding patterns in messy information. You'll build the pipelines that pull medical records, wearable streams, and genomic data into one place — the foundation everything else depends on.
Sub-roles: Medical Records ETL · Wearable & Continuous Data ETL · Genomic Data Analysis
Model Architecture
For people who want to understand what's under the hood of AI systems. You'll design how models are chosen, prompted, and chained together into agents that actually solve problems.
Sub-roles: Model Selection & Best Practices · LLM Architecture & System Prompts · Agentic Workflows · Evaluation & Safety
Application Development
For people who want to build things users can see and touch. You'll design and ship the interface that makes the underlying intelligence usable.
Sub-roles: UX · UI Design · Front-end Development · Back-end Development
Operations
For people who make teams run. You'll coordinate projects, build the culture, and choose the tools the team uses every day.
Sub-roles: Project Management · HR, Team-Building & Experiences · IT: Third-Party Tools, Workflows & Change Management
Marketing & Outreach
For people who can tell a story and build relationships. You'll shape how Flashlight shows up in the world and connect with the people and organizations who can help us grow.
Sub-roles: Website, Media & Branding · Communication & Content · Partnerships & Outreach
Organization, Legal & Finance
For people who want to understand how a company actually becomes a company. You'll work on legal structure, governance, and how we fund and budget the work.
Sub-roles: Legal Entities & Governance · Funding & Budgeting
